Antioxidant enzyme activities alterations in gonads of some black sea fish species inhabited in long-term pollution environment |

Comparative study of biomarkers - antioxidant enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and gluthathione reductase) in gonads of high distributed Black Sea fish species (horse mackerel Trachurus mediterraneus (Staindachner), high body pickarel Spicara flexuosa (Rafinesque), red mullet Mullus barbatus (Linnaeus) and scorpion fish Scorpaena porcus (Linnaeus)) collected in Sevastopol Bay in the period of 1991–1995 and in 2005–2006 demonstrated increase of enzyme activities in fish caught in the period of 2000s. The modification effects of long term man-made pollution on the antioxidant system of fish generative tissues and their role in protection of reproductive organs against oxidative stress damage is discussed.
