INVESTIGATION OF ADSORPTION
PROPERTIES OF CROSSLINKED
CHITOSAN CRYOGEL FOR 90Sr
REMOVING FROM SALTED SOLUTIONS |

Chitosan cryogel (CTSCG) is potential and effective for 90Sr removal from aqueous salted solution. The adsorptive features
of CTSCG were then investigated for 90Sr in view of dependency on ion concentration, pH and kinetics. Additional considerations
were also given to their ion selectivity and reusability. The adsorption isotherms could be fi tted by the Langmuir
model with the maximum adsorption capacity being 21.3 mmol/g at 298.15 K. The values of the Bi criteria indicated that
the velocity of mass transfer of 90Sr ions onto CTSCG was determined by internal and external diffusion. The extra particle
diffusion mechanism is of great importance in determining the overall rate of removal 90Sr. It has been suggested high effi -
ciency of equilibrium was connected with complex adsorption processes. One of the main part of their was adsorbtion of 90Sr
on CTSCG nucleophilic centers another was deposition of hydrolysis forms of strontium on CTSCG surface and occlusion
Sr(NO3 )2 in pores.
