Doronkina The article is dedicaded to the selection of effi cient environmentally sound technology municipal solid waste (MSW) management. The information about the historical trends of MSW treatment is given. The choice of technology is based on the morphological and elemental composition of MSW. It attempts to combine all the available technologies together at an optimum mode, in order to facilitate the recycling of resources. Recovering and recycling of materials can substantially contribute to minimize the amount of waste, which needs to be deposited or delivered to incineration. Separately collected recyclable fractions is a suitable instrument for the selection of effi cient technology in MSW management.
