Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back Volumetric alpha- and beta-activities of the radionuclides n the surface river waters of the Belgorod region Vitko V.I., Kovalenko G.D., Chekanov N.A., Borovlev A.E., Kungurtsev S.A. In the Belgorod region some river basins that can be expected to have anthropogenous influence due to mining operations were separated. The surface river water probes of basins whose are near to iron ores mining operations in the Belgorod region were sampled. In water probes the total volumetric alpha- and beta-activity was measured. It is shown that measured total volumetric alpha-activities in water probes for rivers Vorskla and Oskol are a little above the value recommended WHO for drinking water and total volumetric alpha-activity in river Severski Donets agree with WHO recommendations for drinking water. The measured total volumetric beta-activities in all rivers are below value recommended WHO for drinking water. At a level of our measurement precision the influence of mining operations in Belgorod region on radioactive pollution of surface waters was not revealed.
