DETERMINING THE CONDITIONS FOR RECORDING IR SPECTRA FOR OPERATIONAL ANALYTICAL CONTROL OF METHANOL IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS |

The relevance of the topic of this study is due to the need to provide operational analytical control of concentrated aqueous solutions of methyl alcohol (more than 1 000 mg/l) using selective physicochemical methods of analysis. The authors found that for operational analytical control of methanol in aqueous solutions by IR Fourier spectroscopy, the most effective is the use of an ATR attachment with a diamond crystal equipped with a lid to prevent the evaporation of sample components and a thermocouple to maintain a stable temperature. To reduce the effect of intermolecular interactions on the spectral characteristics of aqueous methanol solutions, it is recommended to record IR spectra at elevated temperatures (50…60 °C).
