GENERATION AND PROPAGATION OF INTENSE INTERNAL WAVES IN TWO-LAYER FLUID: LABORATORY EXPERIMENT AND NUMERICAL MODELING |

In this study, we use laboratory and numerical experiments to simulate particular cases of the dynamics of in-tense waves inside a stratified fluid. In a laboratory experiment, an intense solitary internal wave is generated in a closed reservoir at the interface between two fluids of different densities by the method of hydrodynamic collapse. To register wave fields, high-speed video cameras and hydrodynamic pressure sensors are used. In numerical experiments, for which two different computing tools are used, the same initial conditions are introduced as in laboratory simulations. The results of laboratory and numerical experiments demonstrate good agreement for the analyzed wave fields.
