Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back EMERGENCY SITUATIONS WITH ACCIDENTAL RELEASES OF HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS E.G. Petrova Technological emergencies with accidental releases of hazardous chemicals can lead to serious environmental consequences and pose a threat to human health and life. The article analyzes the causes of such accidents, highlights the main types of emergencies leading to hazardous emissions. The ratio of emergency situations of different types and their territorial distribution by regions of Russia are traced on the basis of information from the author’s database of technological and natural-technological emergency situations. The largest share among all emergencies with emissions that pollute the environment are accidents at oil complex facilities, as well as other industrial accidents; they are followed by accidents at wastewater treatment plants, sewerage systems and transport accidents. The most widespread type of emergency is the release and detection of hazardous chemicals at various social facilities and in the residential sector; however, the scale of such incidents is not as large as during emergencies at industrial and transport facilities.
