FEATURES OF USING THE VOF METHOD FOR MODELING FLOWS WITH A FREE SURFACE |

The article discusses questions on some features of modeling joint flows of liquid and gas phases taking into account compressibility. To solve this class of problems the VOF method is used on the basis of which a mathematical model is formulated within the framework of a one-velocity approximation. The paper examines in detail the problem of choosing methods for basic equations representation in order to increase the stability and accuracy of the results in case of numerical discretization. For the volume fraction transfer equation, a modifi cation method has been proposed to reduce the imbalance in mass characteristics. The article presents the discretization of the mathematical model and the resulting numerical scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed solutions is tested on several problems: gas compression forced by liquid in a channel, propagation of compression waves in a homogeneous gas-liquid mixture, filling a tank with liquid, as well as on the problem of filling two communicating cylindrical tanks with liquid. For each problem a detailed comparison is carried out with existing analytical solutions.
