Waste Water Aftertreatment for Sewage Cleaning Stations
and Further Utilization of Filter Beds |
G.A. Galimova.
If waters receive big quantities of nitrogen and phosphorus it leads to the process of eutrophication. Their various compounds support environment that can harm and at times destroy certain types of aquatic organisms that in turn can negatively affect human wellbeing. To reduce quantities of BOD (biological oxygen demand), nitrates, phosphates and mineral oils sewage cleaning stations can utilize 2-step reactant after-treatment for biologically cleaned waste water. At the first stage water goes through a special multi-stage system of overfall oxygenators with the filtering function. With this stage completed waste waters are directed to sand filters (with bottom to the top flow) that represent 2nd stage of after-treatment. Used filter beds made of sand and gravel can be utilized again for production of gravel concrete (in particular grade 200). This process can generate from 1000 to 1500 tons of used gravel & sand annually. All physical and mechanical tests of concrete samples were performed based on standard methodology (State standard GOST 26.633 –91) and returned positive results.
