In the work we performed analytical generalization of the modern state of natural environment and its main component – the geological environment, conventionally identified with the notion of bowels of the planet Earth; identified the main sources and reasons of their change under the influence of processes of exploration and development of subsoil resources, and methodical approach to assessment of environmental safety of subsurface use, allowing you to set the main directions, methods and means of public control of subsoil use at the global, international, national, regional and local levels.
