We evaluated the quality of soil in terms of sulfates in the Astrakhan gas condensate field and the abundance of plant species the highest priority (wormwood) Artemisia scoparia for these territories. To study used standard techniques. During the activity of the gas complex in the atmosphere every year gets more than 100 million tons of carbon, whose structure is dominated by sulfur compounds and elementary sulfur (about 50 %). Currently, the complex is produced annually more than 4 million tons of sulfur. In the process of transporting the sulfur released to the environment. The work carried out to assess background levels of contamination of new areas of the field. The correlation between the value of the content of sulfates in the soil cover and the abundance of wormwood. It is established that a uniform distribution of wormwood in the field corresponds to a uniform and low content of sulfate ions in the soil that characterizes the minimum man-made pollution.
