Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back PECULIARITIES OF ACTION OF COLLOID NANO-SILVER ON ORGANISMS OF PHYTOAND ZOOPLANKTON A.G. Trigub, V.I. Ipatova The action of colloid nanosilver on standard test objects – freshwater planktonic organisms Daphnia magna Straus and Scenedesmus quadricauda (Thurp.) Breb., as well as marine planktonic organisms Artemia salina (Linnaeus, 1758) and Phaeodactylum tricornutum (Bohlin, 1897), as representatives of zooplankton and phytoplankton was studied. Freshwater crustaceans D. magna were more sensitive to colloidal silver compared to other test objects. Colloidal silver leads to coalescence of the bristles of the thoracic legs of D. magna. This has a direct mechanical effect on the fi ltration apparatus and respiratory appendages (gills), which can adversely affect the processes of feeding and respiration of the crustaceans, leading to their death. A. salina proved to be the most resistant to colloidal silver. Colloidal silver directly enters the intestine A. salina and leads to the death of crustaceans already on the third day. Freshwater alga S. quadricauda is more sensitive to colloidal silver, in contrast to marine P. tricornutum. A prolonged algostatic effect was observed throughout the experiment at concentrations 0,1 and 1 mg/l for S. quadricauda and 0,75 mg/l for P. tricornutum. Colloidal silver has an effect on the structure of the algal cell wall.
