In the paper, estimation of the mass content, particle size distribution and element concentration of atmospheric dust with height stratifi cation in surface layer of atmospheric air is done. A mobile device with vertical dust sampling was established for sampling the air dust on absorbing filters. These fi lters ware analyzed on mass content, particle size distribution and element concentration in a stationary laboratory later. 264 samples were taken with a stratifi cation of altitude from 0,5 m to 10 m at the urban territory of Yekaterinburg within three months. The vertical distribution of dust and its composition in the surface layer of atmospheric air, as well as the infl uence of the seasonal factors is studied. On average, the dust content was 0,09 mg/m3. High concentrations were recorded at a time when the snow was still descended and the leaves had not yet blossomed (the average concentration was 0,15 mg/m3). Low concentration were found at the time when the snow was still lying (the average concentration was 0,05 mg/m3). The dust particle size distribution was determined over 11 intervals: less than 1; 1...2; 2...3; 3...4; 4...5; 5...6; 6...7; 7...8; 8...9; 9...10 μm, more than 10 μm. The most common particle size is 1 to 3 μm. These particles penetrate deeply into the human respiratory system during inhalation increasing the risk of acute respiratory infections, lung cancer et al.
