ASSESSMENT OF THE DANGER OF ROGUE WAVES IN THE OCEAN ACCORDING TO REMOTE SENSING |
R.V. Shamin, A.V. Yudin
The actual and complex problem is considered in the article - estimation of the probability of occurrence of extremely large surface waves in the ocean, called rogue waves. These waves began to be seriously studied several decades ago, and now represent a significant part of research on the dynamics of ocean waves. The phenomenon of rogue waves is the sudden formation of single waves with an amplitude several times greater than a signifi cant wave height. The suddenness of these waves carries a great danger of such waves for sea vessels and coastal structures. Rogue waves are recorded in all regions of the world’s oceans, but the most important task is the zoning of the World Ocean in the likelihood of occurrence of waves. In this paper, we propose an approach for estimating the frequency of occurrence of rogue waves in a particular region of the World Ocean based on remote sensing data of the Earth and known statistical characteristics of rogue waves obtained on the basis of computational experiments.
