Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back LOSS OF WAVE ENERGY DUE TO TSUNAMI PENETRATION INTO THE OKHOTSK SEA THROUGH THE STRAITS OF THE KURIL ISLANDS I.S. Kostenko, A.I. Zaytsev, V.D. Kuzin The paper presents a quantitative assessment of the protective role of the Kuril Islands in the penetration of the tsunami from the Pacifi c Ocean into the Okhotsk Sea. For this purpose, a series of computational experiments of wave propagation from a hypothetical tsunami source using different bathymetries: with the Kuril Islands, without the Kuril Islands and with the wall near the Kuril Islands. The assessment of areas of maximum wave amplifi cation in the Kuril Islands and in the Okhotsk Sea is carried out. According to the results of numerical experiments, the analysis of the Tsunami energy changes during the passage through the Straits of the Kuril Islands in the Okhotsk Sea was carried out.
