Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back LONG-WAVE PROCESSES IN SOUTHEASTERN SHELF SAKHALIN ISLAND P.D. Kovalev, D.P. Kovalev The peculiarities of long-wave processes in the near shore areas of the Sea of Okhotsk on the southeastern shelf of Sakhalin Island are analyzed according to fi eld observations at three points on the coast, obtained using autonomous waves recorders. The presence of energy peaks in calculated energy spectra corresponding to the wave processes in the range of periods from 18 to 720 minutes is established. On the basis of existing theoretical models and approximation of the real shelf, it is shown that in the coastal area different types of long-wave motions are formed, such as edge waves, seiches, Poincare waves. They significantly infl uence the dynamics of the coastal and shelf zones of the ocean where capture and accumulation of wave energy takes place, which has a signifi cant impact on tsunamis, tides, storm surges.
