Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back Technogenic impact in mineralogical composition of river bed deposits (Pakhra River, Moscow region) Yanin E.P. The input of sediment material with sewage and surface runoff from farmlands gives rise to the accumulation of tech-nogenic mud which represents a new type of river bed deposits different in their composition from natural alluvium. Min-eralogical associations of technogenic mud are depleted in the main rock-forming (quartz and feldspar) and heavy (horn-blende and epidote) minerals, but enriched in authigenic minerals (carbonates, iron hydroxides, limonite fragments), apa-tite, and portlandite. Authigenic minerals of technogenic mud largely determine the substance state of pollutants in alluvial sediments, their accumulation rate and behavior.
