Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back ASSESSMENT OF THE CONDITION OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM IN METALLURGICAL WORKERS DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF SERVICE IN HARMFUL WORKING CONDITIONS, BEHAVIORAL AND METABOLIC RISKS T.A. Maslakova, Yu.V. Shalaumova, E.D. Konstantinova, L.A. Konevskikh, L.G. Konshina, M.S. Savintseva A cross-sectional study of workers in industrial enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region was carried out. The study in-cluded 272 men aged 27 to 67 years. We analyzed the parameters of heart rate variability (HRV) by groups depending on the length of service in harmful working conditions and individual risk factors (smoking, body mass index). Analysis of stationary supine recording showed thatwith an increase in length of service in hazardous working conditions, the median of the standard deviation of the normal-to-normalintervals (SDNN) decreased by 20,0 %; and the medians of parameters such as mode amplitude (AMo), index of vegetative balance (IVB) and stress index (SI) increased by 1,2, 1,4 and 1,5 times, respectively. Similar changes were established in the analysis of the effect of tobacco smoking on indices of HRV. The most pronounced changes were noted in the group of smokers with a smoking index ≥40 pack-years (median SDNN decreased by 42,9 %; and the medians AMo, IVB and SI increased 1,4, 2,1 and 2,3 times, respectively).No statistically significant relationship between parameters of HRV and body mass index was found. These data indicate that performing work in adverse conditions and tobacco smoking lead to stress on the autonomic nervous system.
