MECHANISM AND CONDITIONS OF FORMATION OF ANTHROPOGENIC LANDSLIDES ON SAKHALIN ISLAND |
N.A. Kazakov
On Sakhalin Island, the degree of landslide damage is very high, which is due to the relief of Sakhalin Island (young mountains with steep slopes), the geological structure of the territory (unstable rocks-siltstones and mudstonesare easily destroyed and involved in landslide processes) and a large amount of atmospheric precipitation. Landslide risks for the population are compounded by the widespread occurrence of anthropogenic landslides. There are two groups of anthropogenic landslides that differ both in the mechanism of their formation and in the dynamics: landslides on natural landslide massifs that occur as a result of the activation of landslide processes due to anthropogenic impact, and anthropogenic landslides on man-made soil massifs and on anthropogenic altered slopes. Anthropogenic impact on natural landslide massifs leads to the activation of landslide processes in block consequent landslides in weathered fractured rocks (mudstones, siltstones, sandstones, quartzites, granitoids) with a depth of 3,0…200,0 m with a volume of 3,0 to 1,0…9,0 million m3, in secondary block landslides on the bodies of ancient landslides, in landslides of viscoplastic flow in strongly weathered clay-covered sediments with a depth of up to 30,0 m and a volume of 0,2 to 10,0 million m3, in landslides-flows in weakly lithified sandclay rocks with a volume of up to 1,0 million m3 and in surface landslides with a volume of 50…3 000 m3 with a rock capture depth of 0,3…3,0 m in water-saturated slope deluvial deposits. The second group of anthropogenic landslides: block landslides and landslides-flows on anthropogenic massifs of man-made bulk soils (dumps of empty rocks of quarries, mines, etc.), deposited in negative landforms (erosion incisions, valleys of streams and small rivers); landslides on massifs of man-made soils deposited on the slopes of river valleys, terraces and coastal ledges; landslides on landfi lls of solid household waste deposited in negative landforms (erosion incisions, valleys of streams and small rivers). Causes and mechanisms of anthropogenic activation of landslides: filtration of atmospheric precipitation and surface water and water leakage from water pipes laid on the surface of landslide massifs leads to water logging of the rocks of the landslide massifs and contacts between rock layers, forming the sliding surface of the landslide; pruning the foot of landslide massifs during the construction of objects and structures, laying and reconstruction of roads and railways leads to a violation of the conditions of stability of the ground mass; storage on the surface of the landslide mass of dumps of man-made rocks, solid household waste, etc. and the construction of objects and structures on the surface of the ground mass leads to overload of the ground mass and causes a violation of its equilibrium conditions.
