TSUNAMI HAZARD ASSESSMENT FOR THE COASTAL: ZONE OF KORSAKOV (SAKHALIN) |

Information about the historical tsunamis that manifested themselves on the coast of Sakhalin Island is collected. In total, there have been about 30 events over the past 100 years, so the average time between events is estimated at 3-4 years. Detailed calculations of the characteristics of the tsunami on the southern coast of Sakhalin were made using the NAMI-DANCE computational code, which solves non-linear equations of shallow water. The results of numerical modeling of several Chilean tsunamis showed that off the coast of Sakhalin Island the highest values of vertical rise in water level were obtained in the Gulf of Aniva and on the southwestern coast. The highest wave heights were obtained from the results of numerical calculations of the 1960 tsunami. All of this correlates with observational data.
