STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE ROUGHNESS COEFFICIENT ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TSUNAMI DURING COASTAL MICROZONING |

The infl uence of the roughness coefficient on the characteristics of the tsunami during the microzoning of the coast is investigated. Calculations of wave propagation from a hypothetical strong earthquake in the Middle Kuril Islands were made. Calculations of tsunami characteristics on the southern coast of Sakhalin were carried out using the NAMI-DANCE computational code, which solves non-linear equations of shallow water using nested grids with a minimum spacing of about 9 m. Two roughness coeffi cients were used in the calculations: n = 0.015 m–1/3s (characteristic of sand and fine pebbles), and the value n = 0.025 m–1/3s, which corresponds to the bottom with large stones and vegetation. The results of the calculations showed that the height of the tsunami on the shore is sensitive to the selection of the roughness coefficient when using detailed bathymetry and topography of the coastal zone, which is important when carrying out work on tsunamimicrozoning of the coast.
