Statistical Analysis of the Content of Petroleum
Products in Moscow Groundwater |

The content of petroleum products on the territory of the South-Western Administrative District of Moscow in the underground aquifer of
the Volzhsko-Albian terrigenous complex was studied. Using MODFLOW modeling and descriptive geostatistics methods, it was shown
that there is an intensive exchange of this substance that pollutes the subsoil between observation wells. This is evidenced, in particular,
by the discovered cause-and-effect relationships between time series of measurements at observation wells, even if the latter are separated
by many kilometers of distances. These are the connections reaching 10 km in the territory adjacent to the shores of the Moscow River.
It has been suggested that in the capillary-porous medium of the Teplostan Upland of the South-Western Administrative District there is
a developed network of mass exchange of liquid petroleum products between the zones where observation points are located. The work
discovered fragments of this network, knowledge of the structure of which as a whole and the kinetics of the transfer of water and pollutants
in it is a necessary condition for the use and protection of subsoil. It was noted, however, that this requires complex engineering-geological
surveys with an increase in the frequency of measurements, now carried out every six months, as well as an increase in the number of
observation wells, the density of which is currently less than one per 10 km2.
