Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back A Study Based on the Results of Sound Velocity Measurements of the Southeastern Coast of Sakhalin Island Tikhonchuk E.A. The paper presents an analysis of the expeditionary measurement data carried out by SRB FEB RAS near the south-eastern coast of the Sakhalin island (Tonino-Aniva Peninsula). Vertical profi les of the speed of sound are presented. The features of the formation of the thermohaline structure of the sea water in this area were revealed. The structure of the sound speed fi eld on the southeastern Sakhalin shelf is heterogeneous. In most cases, measurements in the Sea of Okhotsk revealed a dependence of the sound speed profi le on the temperature curve. The cold intermediate layer creates conditions for the formation of an underwater sound channel. At the farthest from the coast measurement points the sound speed profi le is determined not only by the temperature profi le, but also by the vertical distribution of salinity, which is formed under the infl uence of the Soya Current water fl ow entering the South Okhotsk region.
