Development of a Map of Snow Drift Volumes During
Ground Blizzards and Drifting Snow (Using Sakhalin
Island as an Example) |
Sergeev M.S.
The paper presents the calculation and subsequent comparison of data on snow drift volumes during ground blizzards,
calculated on the basis of data from meteorological stations of the Sakhalin Island hydrometeorological network. The
calculation results show a large difference in volume values even between meteorological stations located within the same
climate zone. Such differences can directly affect the result of the design work on protecting highways from snow drifts. In
order to reduce the error values in calculations when selecting data from different meteorological stations and to facilitate
the determination of snow drift volumes during ground blizzards and drifting snow, it was proposed to use a map of snow
drift volumes constructed by the interpolation method, which shows isolines of snow drift volumes throughout the entire
territory of Sakhalin Island. The author believes that such a map will help design specialists more accurately design snow
retention and snow control measures on the island's highways.
Keywords: Sakhalin, snow drift, ground blizzard, isolines, map.
