Protection of Natural and Artifi cial Objects
from the Effects of Pressure Impulses Using
a Bulk Porous Barrier |
Gimaltdinov I.K., Khusainov I.G., Galiev A.L.
The work investigated the refl ection of a pressure pulse from a bulk porous barrier located in a liquid. The barrier itself is
saturated with gas. Two options are considered: a) the pores at the “liquid – porous barrier” boundary are “open”; b) pores –
“closed”. Boundary conditions are written and the coeffi cients of transmission and refl ection of the wave from the fi rst and second
boundaries of the obstacle are obtained. The mathematical formulation takes into account interfacial interaction forces, as well
as heat exchange between the skeleton material of the porous medium and the gas saturating the medium. Graphs of the initial,
refl ected and transmitted impulses were constructed.
It has been established that the behavior of the pulse strongly depends on the value of the initial volume fraction of the gas phase.
In particular, when the gas volume fraction decreases from 0.9 to 0.5, the amplitude of the pulses passing through the second
boundary increases fourfold. The evolution of the pressure pulse weakly depends on the initial radius of the pores of the medium,
heat exchange processes and interaction forces between the gas and the skeleton.
The results obtained can be used to create artifi cial means from porous materials in order to protect various objects from destruction
when exposed to a pressure pulse.
