Ecological Systems and Devices Annotation << Back INVESTIGATION OF THE HYDROLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WATER MASSES OF THE KAMCHATKA REGION OF THE NORTHWESTERN PACIFIC OCEAN BASED ON EXPEDITION MEASUREMENTS E.A. Tikhonchuk The paper presents an analysis of expedition data of the sea water hydrological characteristics near the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The character of the thermohaline structure of the waters of the region corresponds to the Pacific type with well-defined cold and warm intermediate layers. The core of the cold intermediate layer is located at a depth of 70–100 m. The core of the warm intermediate layer is located at a depth of 250–350 m. The parameters of the structure and variability of the sound velocity fi eld and sound channels are shown. The peculiarities of hydrological characteristics are revealed depending on the distance of the measuring points from the shore.
