Assessment of Chemical Pollution and Soil Toxicity
in a City with glass Manufacturing Industry |
Kurbatov Yu.N., Selivanov O.G., Martsev A.A.
The paper presents the results of assessing chemical pollution with heavy metals and the level of toxicity of the soil cover of the city of Gus-Khrustalny,
a developed industrial center of glass production in the Vladimir region. It was found that the soil of Gus-Khrustalny is subject to significant
chemical pollution with heavy metals Cr, Zn, Ni, Pb, Cu, As, Co, which is associated with the industrial activities of glass and machine-building
enterprises. The results of determining the toxicity index of aqueous extracts of soil samples showed that soil samples near the Experimental Glass
Plant, the Rosatom Steklovolokno plant are highly toxic, and toxic - near the Gusar, Gusevskaya Crystal Plant, F.E. Dzerzhinsky Glass Plant, and
the Armagus plant. To reduce the negative impact on the soil cover, it is necessary to develop environmental measures aimed at reducing chemical
pollution of the soil associated with the activities of glass and machine-building plants, in order to restore disturbed lands.
Keywords: glass production, urban soil, heavy metals, gross content, toxicity index, public health.
