Effectivity of Lead and Camdium Phytoextraction from Model Polluted Soil by the Cultivated Oat
Petukhov A.S., Kremleva T.A., Khritokhin N.A., Pervukhina E.D.

This study is devoted to revealing the features of Pb and Cd accumulation in the cultivated oat in conditions of organogenic
and mineral substrate (soil) model pollution by various concentration of individual metal. Pollution was applied in the
form of lead acetate and cadmium sulfate in the amount of 0, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 0, 2, 5, 10, 20 mg/kg (calculated
for metal), respectively. The duration of vegetation was 14 days, after which the content of metals in the underground
and aboveground parts of the cultivated oat, mobile and acid-soluble forms of metals in soil were determined by atomic
absorption spectroscopy. Multiple accumulation of Pb and Cd in oats relative to the control was revealed (up to 112 and 470
times, respectively). Migration of metals was more pronounced in the underground part of oats (up to 10 times compared
to the above-ground part) and in mineral substrate conditions (up to 15 times compared to the organogenic substrate). The
mobility of metals in the soil is higher in the mineral substrate than in the organogenic one, the mobility of Cd is higher than
that of Pb. Accumulation, translocation, migration to the above-ground part of the plant and disturbances of the barrier
mechanism of the root system with increasing pollution were more pronounced for Cd than for Pb. The underground and
above-ground (to a lesser extent) parts of oats can serve as indicators of Pb and Cd content in the soil, and a high degree of
Cd extraction from the soil is promising for the use of oats in phytoremediation.
Keywords: heavy metals, lead, cadmium, accumulation, phytoextraction, plants, soil.
