The state of research in the field of microwave radiometry of soil and vegetation is analyzed. Directions of future prospective research in this field are discussed. The results of theoretical and experimental studies on the development and verification of models for microwave emission of the Earth’s surface in the presence of vegetation canopies are generalized. The relation of model parameters to features of soil and vegetation and the retrieval of these features from microwave radiometric measurements are considered.
